Site Is Back

I had an accident last summer and impaired my ability to walk. However I am getting much better and following a walking program.

Yes I procrastinate still. I did not want to commit to exercise since my injuries could be worsened if I pushed to far. That is what occured last winter when I pushed myself to far.

The Fallacy Of All Or Nothing Thinking

Yes I still suffer from procrastination. Cognitive Therapists warn about an old philosophical fallacy called the “Black and White Fallacy”. In Cognitive Therapy this has been renamed the “All Or Nothing Fallacy”.

Application:

I was injured and is true. It is also true that over walking can set me back. But I don’t have to let this be all or nothing. I can give myself permission to take shorter walks and check in with my body!

Frequently our worst enemy is the voice we carry around in our own head!

I know that I am not a good friend to myself. Well sometimes I am and I want to improve my reputation to myself!

In this site I will frequently give “exhortations to myself“. I do this to contradict my tendency to depress myself. You might want to join me in this practice.  I learned this technique not from psychology but philosophy. The philosopher Marcus Aurelius wrote his classic centuries ago but was actually an exhortation to himself to not let depression get the best of him since he was dying of what we today know as cancer.

Well glad to be back.  I will be posting frequently here. Sometimes it isn’t procrastination as I have other sites but this site is now really important to me.

It is not just procrastination! I have learned that depression can sometimes be the root cause to procrastination along with lack of self confidence. I will be discussing my battle in these areas also. As they say in the 12 step programs when some one sponsors another, “I am not doing this merely to help others but also to help myself”. I am also a sufferer. Getting better but still not there.

Join me on our common journey!
